YouTube · Demand creation
YouTube ads that create the demand search captures.
Video campaigns built to generate demand you can then win in search — measured on what they do to the whole account, not on view-through conversions alone.
- 01
Judged on the wrong metric
View-through conversions make any video campaign look profitable. Strip them out and most YouTube spend has no measurable effect.
- 02
A TV ad on a skip button
Creative that takes thirty seconds to make its point, on a placement where the viewer decides in five.
- 03
No capture layer
Demand gets created and then leaks away, because nothing in search is set up to catch the branded queries it produces.
- 04
Targeting that is too broad to learn from
One campaign, every placement, no segmentation — so nothing can be concluded when it works or when it does not.
What we do
-
Demand-generation campaigns
Video reach and in-stream built for a defined audience and a defined claim, with frequency managed deliberately.
-
Creative direction
Hook in the first five seconds, one idea per asset, and variants built to isolate which claim actually lands.
-
Capture in search
Branded and category search campaigns prepared before the video runs, so the demand you create does not go to a competitor.
-
Measurement design
Geo holdouts or clean before-and-after windows, so the contribution of video is argued from evidence rather than from platform-reported assists.
Video is a paid channel, not a content project
YouTube is frequently sold as awareness — a line in the budget that nobody has to justify. We treat it as a paid acquisition channel, which means it carries the same burden of proof as search: a defined audience, a defined claim, and a measurement design agreed before anything goes live.
The capture layer comes first
Video creates branded demand. If nothing in search is ready to catch it, that demand reaches whichever competitor is bidding on your category terms. So the search side gets built first: brand defence, category coverage and a landing experience that matches what the video actually promised.
Measuring honestly
View-through conversions will make any video campaign look successful. We measure on geo holdouts or clean before-and-after windows against a stated hypothesis. Sometimes the answer is that YouTube is not the right channel for your offer — and finding that out in six weeks is worth the cost of the test.
Selected results
- A channel plan tied to a specific audience and a specific claim
- Creative briefs and a testing matrix for the first flight
- Search capture campaigns live before the video spend starts
- A measurement design that can show incremental effect, not just assisted conversions
- A read on whether the channel earns a permanent place in the mix
Questions
Do we need professionally produced video?
No. Clear, well-lit, direct-to-camera assets regularly outperform expensive production on YouTube. What matters is the hook and the specificity of the claim.
How much should we budget for a first test?
Enough to reach a defined audience several times over four to six weeks. Below that you learn nothing, and the test becomes an expensive way to confirm uncertainty.
Will this cannibalise our search spend?
Branded search volume normally rises, which looks like cannibalisation on a blended report. That is why we set the measurement design before the campaign, not after.
